Tony Shalhoub Tastes His Way Through Baguettes and Buns Around the World in First Look of 'Breaking Bread' (Exclusive)
- Tony Shalhoub, known for his roles in Monk and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, will be hosting a new CNN Original Series called Breaking Bread, where he explores different cultures through the lens of bread.
Tony Shalhoub is stepping out of the detective's shoes and stuffy suits to don an apron in the kitchen.
The Tony, Golden Globe and four-time Emmy Award-winning star of Monk and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is trading neurotic characters for warm loaves in Tony Shalhoub Breaking Bread , a brand-new CNN Original Series premiering Sunday, Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
In the upcoming series, the actor embarks on a global journey as he explores the nuanced ways in which bread serves as a conduit into a variety of international cultures and cuisines. Breaking Bread introduces the real Tony Shalhoub often hidden behind the characters he is known to portray on screen: a lover of food who makes bread and breaks bread with local bakers, top chefs, home cooks and everyone in between.
"This past year, shooting Breaking Bread has been one of the most joyous and revealing experiences, introducing me to people and places that I never could have expected," Shalhoub tells Parade exclusively. "I can't wait for audiences to connect with what I discovered–that humanity can be found at every dinner table."

In this season, audiences can see Shalhoub taste and break bread with bakers, chefs, celebrities and locals in an array of incredible cities. He eats baguettes in France, munches on fluffy Japanese milk bread and red bean buns in Tokyo and delights in bread baked in the side of a volcano in Iceland.

Along the way, Shalhoub returns to his roots with stops in his hometown of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and his long-time home of New York City, where he samples everything from Caribbean breads to Irish soda bread . He even finds a taste of his heritage in São Paulo, Brazil, home to one of the largest Lebanese populations in the world. From learning more about the world to learning more about himself, Breaking Bread is sure to take Shalhoub and viewers on one delicious ride.
