Willie Geist celebrated a major relationship anniversary with a sentimental throwback photo.
The Sunday Today anchor took to Instagram on Thursday, September 3, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his and his wife Christina 's first meeting. Geist commemorated the occasion by sharing one of his and Christina's earliest photos together.
"This is wild. I met @ChristinaSharkeyGeist 40 years ago *today* — on September 3, 1986 — in Mr. Kaplan's homeroom at George Washington Middle School in Ridgewood, NJ… just as Bananarama was poised to seize the top spot on the charts with 'Venus," Geist captioned a photo of the pair's middle school class, in which he and Christina stood on either side of their teacher.
"Despite my general 11-year-old vibe in this class photo, Christina agreed to marry me 17 years later," he quipped. "That serendipitous 6th Grade homeroom assignment has given me everything. Thank you, Mr. Kaplan!"
Geist concluded the post by recalling how Kelly Clarkson surprised him with an on-air reunion with Mr. Kaplan on The Kelly Clarkson Show last year. "Happy 40 years, CG!" he wrote.

Fans gushed over the adorable childhood photo in the post's comments. "40 years is crazy! Congrats! Ridgewood classrooms have a real track record in matchmaking for your family @christinasharkeygeist," one user wrote. Another added, "Fantastic memory. Honored to have Mr. Kaplan as 6th grade teacher at Ridge School before he moved over to GW."
Someone else wrote, "The side pose swag at 11 says everything we needed to know Willie. Congrats to you and your beautiful bestie for life." A different person posted, "I love you and Christina's "love story"! It's wild that 40 years have gone by! Happy 40 years of knowing each other, and here's to many more loving memories for you, Christina, and Mr. Kaplan."

In an August 2019 interview with Glamour , Geist said he and Christina "dated briefly" during their freshman year of high school but eventually broke up. After getting back together during their junior year, they attended Vanderbilt University together and later broke up again. The pair reconnected for good after college and tied the knot in 2003.
"I would meet people who didn't know him, and that was important to establish my own identity. But in my heart he would've absolutely been the one that got away," Christina told the outlet. "I'm grateful that neither one of us was too proud at age 25 when we were figuring out how to get back together and make it work out. You have to really look yourself in the mirror at certain moments in your life and say, 'What's most important here?' For me, that was being together."
The couple became parents with the birth of their daughter, Lucie, in 2007, followed by their son, George, in 2009.
