The Billboard Music Awards have been recognizing top artists since 1990, with the Top Artist award given to acts who dominated the year commercially.
Past winners of the Top Artist award include Whitney Houston, Ed Sheeran, Adele, Drake, and Taylor Swift, with some artists winning multiple times.
The 2022 Billboard Music Awards will take place on May 14, where the next Top Artist will be revealed.

The Billboard Music Awards have recognized the artists and records that have made the biggest splashes on the Billboard charts since its inception in 1990. Beginning in 1993 (with the exception of 1994 and a break 2007-10), Billboard would award the Artist of the Year or Top Artist award to the musical act who dominated the year commercially. Artists from Whitney Houston to Ed Sheeran have been recognized, with several artists — including Adele, Drake and Taylor Swift — having won the award on more than one occasion.
