These 5 Grocery Store Snacks Went Viral — Here’s Why Shoppers Love Them

I don't let the internet dictate the vast majority of my grocery list, but I do let it inform a few of the things I buy and eat. Most often, that means I'm seeking out ingredients for a trending recipe. (For example, in January I picked up Biscoff cookies and yogurt to make a  two-ingredient "cheesecake"  that took over social media.) Occasionally, a specific grocery product goes so viral that I can't resist giving it a try — especially if it's a snack. 

Grocery stores are the great connector for home cooks across the country. We all have to get our food somewhere, and most of the time, we're buying it from a select few supermarket chains. Thanks to the expertise of other shoppers and the power of the internet, some standout grocery finds have gone viral in recent years. If you've missed out on the grocery zeitgeist or need to add a new treat to your grocery haul, one of these five viral snacks might be what you need.

Fruit Bucket Ice Cream

Stop by H Mart to snag this adorable pint of fruit-shaped frozen bites. A thin chocolate shell coats 3D-printed strawberries, blueberries, grape clusters, bananas, peaches, and mangos, each filled with fruity ice cream. The Fruit Bucket ice cream is made by the Chinese brand Aiko Garden. Although it kept selling out at H Mart when it went viral in March, the odds of finding it now are much higher. If you don't have an H Mart near you, look for the Fruit Bucket at other big Asian grocers, like 99 Ranch Market.

Trader Joe's Sweet & Sour Gummy Worms

These gummy worms require a warning: They contain a surprising amount of fiber. At $3.99 per bag, with zero grams of sugar per serving and no artificial dyes, the appeal of these gummy worms is obvious. They quickly became popular when the candy launched at Trader Joe's this summer, but shoppers soon discovered an unexpected side effect. A serving of eight gummy worms packs a whopping 14 grams of fiber, and eating too many may send you sprinting to the bathroom. They're still worth a try — just don't eat an entire bag at once — and if you want a sweet fiber supplement, the  Sweet & Sour Gummy Worms  are a fun way to add a little more of the nutrient to your diet.

Kirkland Signature Marshmallow Crispy Cookie

If it isn't evident yet, the internet loves a sweet treat, and Costco sent social media into a frenzy when it combined a classic packaged snack with a chewy sugar cookie. The  Kirkland Signature Marshmallow Crispy Cookie  first went viral in the summer of 2025, prompting shoppers to buy out every pack and share their reviews on social media. It was such a hit that Costco brought back the now-famous cookie this summer, and it's still in stores. The treat features brown butter cookie dough studded with marshmallow pieces and crispy rice cereal. If you love a chewy, crispy textural contrast, this is the snack for you.

Emporium Selection Butterkäse Cheese

Unlike the other items on this list, Aldi's  Butterkäse  cheese started selling out because it's a crucial component of a viral two-ingredient "recipe." Content creator Courtney Cook ( @courtneylcook ) introduced her followers to the ultra-buttery cheese because she loves eating it simply stuffed into a roasted sweet potato.

Butterkäse is soft and creamy, with a texture often compared to cold butter or American cheese. Even if you don't want to eat it with a sweet potato, this cheese is worth picking up at Aldi for a simple snack. While you can usually find pre-sliced Butterkäse at Aldi, whole blocks of the cheese are a little less common. Look for them at the European chain during its twice-a-year German Week, Oktoberfest, and the holidays.

Trader Joe's Patio Potato Chips

If you need another reason to try these chips beyond the social media furor surrounding them, snack reviewer Kevin Escalera ( @SnackEatingSnacks ) has declared Trader Joe's  Patio Potato Chips  the best in the United States, as  Food & Wine  previously reported. Each bag includes four flavors of ridged potato chips: sea salt and vinegar, delicious dill, homestyle ketchup, and sweet barbecue. These are a seasonal summer item, but they're still available, so you should stock up before the social media-beloved chips disappear from shelves again.
