Black Kitten Lounges in the Litter Box Like It's the Beach

Some kittens can be pretty picky about their litter boxes. It has to be the right shape and size and include the right litter, or it's a no-go. I have one very particular cat and one who would go in any litter box she was offered, so it's always the choosy one I cater to—and as long as I follow his whims, he seems to like his litter box just fine.

But not only does Binx, the Black Cat , appear to really love his litter box, but he also seems to think that when he's in it, he's actually at the beach instead. Please look at the pose this Black Kitten is pulling off in this video:

All thoughts aside about how gross it is to lie in your litter box (essentially a cat's toilet) like this… can we talk about how hilarious Binx's pose is?

It's almost like he knows he's not supposed to be lounging in there, so he's going to challenge his mom over it.

He looks her right in the eye as she tells him that's not a place for him to hang out. He might be tiny, but he has a lot of attitude in that little body.

Why Is My Cat Hanging Out in the Litter Box?

Sometimes, kittens take to hanging out in strange places—if you've ever raised a cat, you know that already! But what if that strange place happens to be the litter box, like Binx?

According to Cats.com , this behavior can sometimes be seen in kittens who are so new to the world that they're still figuring things out. They might just be investigating this new place, especially if this is the first time they're really encountering a litter box. Some kittens may even nap in there!

Kittens (and older cats) may also be using their litter box as a hiding spot if they're feeling anxious about something. The litter box may feel safe to them, especially if it's covered, since that makes it an even better hideout .

But when should you be concerned about this behavior? Sometimes, your cat spending all their time in the litter box can signal a health issue, like a urinary infection, so you'll want to look for other behaviors that could accompany this one. If they're hanging out in their box but aren't letting out very much urine, they could have a UTI.

In all cases, asking your vet for their advice is always a good idea. They might tell you that your kitty is just a big fan of their litter box… or they might have a solution for you.
