For most brides, a guillotine isn't a wedding must-have. But for Sabrina Harb, it was non-negotiable.
The 31-year-old is passionate about the art of hosting. She shares themed and affordable ways to host as the founder of Moody Solace , and hosts monthly themed gatherings as the co-founder of Just Because Supper Club . So, when it was time to plan her wedding to Kurt Brossman, 33, on March 18 at Buddy Todd Park in Oceanside, California, it was a no-brainer that the intimate celebration would be themed.
Harb grew up with a bust of Marie Antoinette in her home, and thought it would be perfect for her "very over-the-top, gaudy" bridal shower and wedding. The former Queen of France was sentenced to death and executed by guillotine in Paris during the French Revolution in 1793. Harb couldn't have a "Marie Antoinette-inspired" wedding without a nod to her infamous beheading.
"[Kurt] was okay with the theme; he doesn't really care. He's used to my creative psychosis, if you will. We were going over the wedding budget, and he was like, 'Hey, do you think we really need a guillotine? Like, is that really necessary?' And I was like, 'Yes, don't ask me that question. That's a silly question.' "
The guillotine would slice into the couple's wedding cake from The Cake Atelier 's Susara Vermaak. The cake was decorated like a melting candle and flavored red velvet, of course.
There was just one tiny issue — guillotines aren't exactly sold at your local store.

Because the decapitation device couldn't be picked up on a whim, Harb had to have it custom made. Her ASRV coworker, Neil Karstetter , was luckily up for the challenge.
"[He] builds all of our sets, and I was like, 'Hey, do you think you can build me a guillotine?' " Harb explains. "He's like, 'Woah, I've never made one of those, but let's figure it out.' "
To make the execution machine less "morbid," Harb sprayed on sparkles and added dainty bows on the sides with pearls in the center. The guillotine was "only $250," and the entire wedding was roughly $1,500 .
Harb walked down the aisle to the dark organ composition "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" and wore a vintage-style wedding dress. Her dress was altered by Sheila Reyes , and updo styled by Noel Guzman .

"He treats you like a queen, Marie Antoinette if you will," the officiant said during the ceremony speech. "Minus the whole guillotine stuff, and the treason, and some other stuff."
When the dramatic cake cutting happened, the 10 wedding guests thought it was "funny," but they weren't surprised because they were aware of Harb's passion for themed parties and expected something out of the box. Harb says, "My family members were like, 'Yeah, this is pretty on par."
Harb posted a video of the dramatic wedding cake cutting on TikTok on March 18, and the clip rapidly amassed about 5 million views and 750,000 likes. She wrote onscreen, "Who needs a cake cutter when you can just use a guillotine," and added in the caption, "The wedding cake and guillotine cake cutter of my DREAMS πͺπ©Έπ."

When the video went viral, Harb thought to herself, "This can't be real." She jokes, "My big break is me looking psychotic online, so that's cool."
"It's also cool that our wedding gained so much traction. Like, I don't think all people can say that. It just feels very special to share that moment with so many cool people. I've met some cool online friends from it and more traction to my events page. This just feels like an overall blessing."

Harb still has the guillotine and already has an idea of how to use it in the future.
"People keep commenting, they're like, 'Oh, I thought this was a gender reveal.' And I'm like, not a bad idea. So when the time comes, I might bust it back out and do a little gender reveal with it."
