Chipotle Just Announced a Big Menu Change, and Now Some Fans Are Swearing off the Chain for Good

Changes at a beloved fast food chain can be hard for some fans to accept, especially when a fan-favorite menu item is involved. Whether it's removing something from the menu or completely changing a recipe , customers are going to have opinions—and they're probably going to be strong. 

Recently, Burger King changed its chicken nuggets because fans had called them "rubbery" and "disappointing" for years. While most customers are applauding the recipe change, some fans are "devastated" by the new nuggets , calling them "terrible" and "not crispy" enough. 

You can't please everyone—and another restaurant chain is learning that this week. Chipotle brought back its Pollo Asado chicken, a protein not seen since its 2022 launch, with an all-new recipe, and fans have mixed reviews.

Chipotle Changes Pollo Asado Recipe

Chipotle's Pollo Asado was the brand's first-ever chicken innovation when it launched in 2022. The chicken was seasoned and seared, then hand-chopped, and finished with a "bright marinade," fresh-squeezed lime, and cilantro. 

While Pollo Asado paved the way for Chipotle's next new chicken offerings, like Chicken Al Pastor and Chipotle Honey Chicken , it wasn't a fast favorite. While some customers called it "pretty good," others said it was "bland" and tasted more like "Italian chicken" than the Mexican dish.

So, Chipotle updated its Pollo Asado recipe to feature grilled adobo chicken seasoned with garlic, Mexican spices, cilantro, and lime juice for a savory, smoky flavor.

Now, the customers who fell in love with the original Pollo Asado are disappointed by the new flavor, saying Chipotle "ruined" the chicken.

"Can't believe people were begging for the honey chicken to be gone for this super mid pollo asado," wrote a Reddit user. "I'm disappointed."

While some customers are sharing their frustrations, many more are flooding Chipotle's comments with praise for the new Pollo Asado recipe. "I was ANGRY my honey chicken left but pollo asado [is] bussin," an Instagram user wrote .

"After asking for 4 years straight, thank you for bringing it back," commented another.

For the first time, Chipotle is adding seasoning to its chips. The new Chili Lime Chips are inspired by fan creations and feature a bold smoky chili and zesty lime flavor.

While Pollo Asado is receiving mixed reviews, most fans have come to a consensus on the new Chili Lime Chips: They need to be permanent.
