  • A Maine Coon cat named Remy gets a hilarious scare from a toaster popping toast.

Maine Coons are known for their intelligence and endless curiosity. They like to know everything that’s going on and will inspect everything within their reach. Often, by doing that, they’ll find something weird to play with, make a bed, and take a nap somewhere unexpected. But other times, they come across something they’ve never seen before, and it can lead to some hilarious events.

This video captures the buildup as a Maine Coon examines the kitchen and comes across a toaster on the counter. He looks at the small appliance with laser focus and has the funniest reaction when the toast pops. Take a look at this silly kitty!

On January 9, 2026, TikTok user @remyandnala shared a video of their gray Maine Coon named Remy, who encountered a toaster browning some bread. He was curious at first.

In the clip, we see Remy's laser-focused eyes on the toaster, probably curious about the sound or smell coming from it. And he had no idea he was about to get the jump scare of his life. He didn’t just get a little scared; he was terrified. He was so surprised and caught off guard when the toast popped up; he lunged backward off the counter and onto the floor faster than a blink.

In the comments, other cat parents shared the kitchen gadget or appliance that makes their kitty jump off the counter, while others had sweet words for Remy.

One person wrote, "Why does long hair make cats so stubborn? Our floofs are the most stubborn of the bunch."

Another shared, "He didn’t even blink; he immediately flew. You'd better go apologize [right now.]"

Someone else added, "It's me literally every time I set the kitchen timer. I know it's coming, but dang."

Other comments included, "For us, its the salad spinner," "He knows it’s coming but still gets scared," "Jumped fast and slow at the same time," "It kinda scares me too, buddy," "At least he didn’t overreact," "I was waiting with him. Yet, I got jump scared, too," and "What a handsome kitty cat."

How To Help If Your Cat Has Anxiety

If your cat is a little anxious, which is a real problem for felines, there are a few things you can do.

According to Small Door Veterinary , creating a safe space for your cat is one good way to help reduce their anxiety. This would be a place for them that's quiet, dark, and away from stimuli and stress. They can head there when anxiety rises, and can come out when they're feeling calmer.

Hopefully, Remy isn't going to be afraid of the toaster for too long. But let's be honest, some of us still jump when the toast is ready, too.
