Dog missing for 2 years reunited with his humans after being found more than 1,000 miles from home
A Texas family lost hope that they would ever see their beloved dog again after she went missing from their home nearly two years ago.
Then, Gloria Greer got a call last week from the Clark Police Department in Union County. A resident reported a lost dog roaming around the Clark Commons Shopping Center on March 4, and the miniature schnauzer's microchip led police to Greer.
"I started screaming," Greer said. "We were just in shock."
In May 2024, Koko escaped from her owners' yard in Glenn Heights, Texas. Greer and her family searched desperately but eventually feared someone had taken her.
"We just prayed that she's safe, she's protected and no one's going to hurt her," Greer said.
After a Good Samaritan found Koko wandering, Patrolman Nick Kurus brought the dog to the police headquarters, where staff members took care of her. They walked, fed and bathed her and provided her with blankets and toys.
"As a dog lover amongst many other dog lovers, we were not going to make that puppy wait in a shelter or pound," said Police Director Patrick Grady.

Greer and her husband, Will Piece, immediately made plans to fly to New Jersey.
She launched a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for the trip and said her friends and family "came through with flying colors."
On Saturday, Koko reunited with her owners at the Clark Police Headquarters. Greer said the moment Koko saw her and her husband, she instantly recognized them.
"I was overjoyed, but it was still that, 'Oh, my God, is this real? Am I really holding my baby again?'"
While it remains a mystery how Koko traveled from Texas to New Jersey, Greer said Koko was found in good condition. She has already settled back into her home, and immediately began playing with her sister, Khloe.
Koko, who is turning seven next month, has remained gentle and well-behaved and has kept her loving and happy-go-lucky personality, Greer said.
"We're all happy and it's been wonderful," Greer said. "It is a huge blessing that we got our baby. We never thought we would see the day."
