Which Elkhart student was named The Tribune's Student of the Week?
Congratulations to Odalis Rodriguez Miranda of Eklhart High School! She was voted by Tribune readers as the South Bend Tribune Student of the Week for Aug. 31, with the week's theme highlighting students involved in career and technical education (CTE) programs.
Winner: Odalis Rodriguez Miranda, Elkhart High School
Odalis Rodriguez Miranda, Elkhart High School : Odalis serves as one of the presidents of the Elkhart Future Business Leaders of America chapter while also representing students across Indiana as an Indiana Future Business Leaders of America state vice president, an extraordinary accomplishment that demonstrates her leadership, professionalism and commitment to CTE. She also has her own business creating custom satin floral arrangements, while she is simultaneously completing her license for cosmetology at our Career Center.
Nominee: Jacoby Davis, Mishawaka High School
Jacoby Davis, Mishawaka High School : Jacoby was selected by his teachers because of the joy that he gets out of Engineering and Industry 4.0. He is typically a quiet student in other classes but is loud-spirited and eager to learn in our CTE classes. He enjoys how his CTE classes make school fun and enjoyable.
Nominee: Jillian Engbrecht, NorthWood High School
Jillian Engbrecht, NorthWood High School : Senior Jillian Engbrecht is a trailblazer as NorthWood's first student to participate in the Educator Apprenticeship program through our partnership with Horizon Education Alliance. Jillian successfully balances her apprenticeship in an elementary classroom with several dual credit courses, her commitment as a valued member of the tennis team and excellent academic performance.
Nominee: Baylen Benson, Penn High School
Baylen Benson, Penn High School : Penn High School nominates sophomore Baylen Benson for South Bend Tribune's Student of the Week. He is rebuilding the lathe in the machine shop at Penn. He is fixing the entire transmission of that system. It had to come all apart, and Baylen was the student to do it. He almost begged his teacher to give him this responsibility. Whatever his future career ambitions are, his positive attitude and work ethic will serve him and his community well.
