Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Kike Hernandez mourned the death of his beloved dog, Bruce Wayne. The Dodgers star shared the heartbreaking news on Wednesday.

Hernandez posted a series of photos with Wayne, thanking the beloved dog "for being part of the best nine years of my life." The news comes shortly after the Dodgers were swept by the Brewers in the National League Championship Series.

"RIP my dear Bruce Wayne!" Hernandez wrote in his emotional post. "Eternally grateful for your nobility, loyalty, unconditional love and happiness you brought into our lives!"

Hernandez revealed that Wayne kept his wife, Mariana Vicente, company while he was on the road. He also shared some of his experiences with the beloved pet.

"All those years you kept your mom company while I was on the road," Hernandez continued. "I'm going to miss how you had the ball in your mouth all day, your smile, your kisses, your breath, throwing the ball all day non-stop, how you ran playing like a bunny, how you barked at any animal on the TV, when you put your paws forward on the pad and you failed completely, telling yourself to stop jumping on the sheet, when you tried to eat Pé & Santi's food, like you didn't let Arizona play with any toys because you took them all away. I'm going to miss walking you every afternoon like you have no idea!"

Hernandez and Vicente share two children: Penélope Isabel and Santiago José. Their home is also home to beloved pets, Arizona and Bruce Wayne .

Arizona is a red miniature Goldendoodle. In January, the couple celebrated Arizona's 10th birthday. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne was a miniature Australian Labradoodle. He was even part of Hernandez's wedding with Vicente on December 8, 2018, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In his emotional farewell post to the Dodgers fans, Hernandez acknowledged the disappointing end but said he enjoyed himself the most in the past three years in LA.

"LA, we fell short of our big goal. But looking at the big picture, what a ride these last three years were!! If this is it for us…. Once again, I will always be thankful for you guys & I will forever love ya!" Hernandez wrote in the caption.

The veteran utility man became a free agent following the season. After the NLCS Game 4 defeat, Hernandez expressed that he would welcome another opportunity with the Dodgers.

"I would love to have one more try, trying to win another one," Hernandez said . "But I don't really know what's going to happen. I hope I'm back, and if I'm not, I hope that I get to play for a winning team."

Hernandez is coming off an injury-plagued campaign. He underwent left elbow surgery in November 2025 and began the 2026 season on the injured list. After returning on May 25, he suffered a Grade 3 left oblique tear and was sidelined again before returning on July 28. As a result, he was able to appear in just 41 regular-season games.

It's up to the Dodgers whether they want to bring back their utility player on a new deal this offseason.
