While the world's most famous domestic goddess is best known for her love of home, in recent years, Martha Stewarthas been enjoying taking to the skies—traveling the world with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Most recently, we caught up with the lifestyle icon in Kohler, Wisconsin, where she headlined the annual KohlerFood & Wineweekend as the brand's new Cast Iron Ambassador—a destination she calls "absolutely enchanting." Known for her trademark efficiency, Stewart shared her go-to packing tips, favorite travel outfits and definitive stance on packing cubes (in true Martha fashion.)

On her favorite travel outfit:

When it comes to an easy, go-to airplane outfit, the lifestyle icon is into quiet luxury—but make it comfy . "I love two-piece knit pant and sweater sets. Those are my favorite clothing right now, and they're very chic," Stewart says. "You can do a zip-up cashmere hoodie with cashmere pants— Loro Pianamakes beautiful things, and so does Brunello Cucinelli. They're very expensive, but you can find similar styles in just about every store right now." Her travel uniform is simple and versatile: "I like to travel with a pair of boots or sneakers. You can be dressed up or dressed down—it's the perfect wardrobe."

On her packing style— and favorite luggage brand:

While no one would ever doubt Stewart's packing proficiency, she admits she's not exactly a light traveler. "When I go on a trip, there are breakfasts, lunches, dinners, events—maybe a speaking engagement, a commercial to make, social media stuff, a TikTok to create—so I have to pack a lot of different outfits," she says.

As for her luggage of choice? Stewart swears by "the great big Rimowatrunkon wheels," which she says "holds almost everything." Her method is as meticulous as you'd expect: "One side is for my shoes, all in little bags, and the other side I put every single outfit on a hanger and in a dry-cleaner plastic bag. If you fold them simply back and forth, nothing ever gets wrinkled. You just hang them right up in your hotel closet, and everything is ready to wear."

On packing hacks:

To keep things fresh and organized, Stewart keeps her system simple. "All cosmetics and toiletries are in Ziploc plastic bags in a small carry-on suitcase," she says. "I'm rarely not with a checked bag—the big suitcase has to be checked."

And while the latest travel craze seems to be all about packing cubes — Meghan Markle swears by them —Martha isn't swayed by the hype. "Packing cubes? Everything comes out totally wrinkled and disheveled—I'm not a big fan," she says. "I'm never trying to stuff so much into so little."

On beauty and skincare while traveling:

The home and garden guru may be a notoriously light sleeper, but you'd never know it—thanks to a devoted beauty routine that keeps her glowing wherever she goes. Lately, that regimen includes her newest passion project: skincare. "I've been promoting my new skincare line, Elm Biosciences," Stewart says. "The serum comes with a supplement—you take two capsules every day. We're trying to get beauty from the inside out."

On how she travels:

Her favorite places to explore are always changing. "We go somewhere new every time—we never duplicate," she says. "That's just not our style. We want to see everything we possibly can."

Next on her itinerary? "Right now, we're trying to decide where to go for Thanksgiving. We've done Rome, so we're thinking Barcelona or maybe somewhere in South America," she shares. "My grandchildren are fluent in Spanish, so they love visiting places where they can speak the language. They've already been to all seven continents—and they're only 13 and 14."

And her dream trip? "The best place to go," she smiles, "is the one you haven't been to yet," she smiles. "That's exactly the right answer."
