MSC Reveals Plans for Second Private Island as Part of Massive Caribbean Expansion

MSC Cruises is embarking on a major enhancement project for Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in The Bahamas, including the development of a second private island destination, with new dining options and an exclusive retreat for adults called Paradise Sands.
The expansion of Ocean Cay will feature an extended pier to accommodate two ships, upgrades to Seakers Cove Family Beach, and the development of a second private island adjacent to Ocean Cay, known as “Little Cay,” which will offer luxury facilities and water features while focusing on environmental stewardship.
The new developments at Ocean Cay and the upcoming second private island aim to provide guests with immersive experiences that connect them to nature, pristine beaches, and the beauty of the ocean, while also promoting environmental conservation through initiatives like the Super Coral Reefs Program and the Marine Conservation Center.

For travelers who believe one slice of paradise isn't enough, MSC Cruiseshas some major news on the horizon. The cruise line has officially announced a massive enhancement project for Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, alongside the development of a second, adjacent private island destination in The Bahamas.

Since opening its doors in late 2019, Ocean Cay has been a standout on Caribbeanitineraries, lauded for transforming a former industrial sand excavation site into a "thriving tropical paradise destination with a rich and flourishing marine ecosystem." Now, the line is ready to take the guest experience to the next level.

The expansion is headlined by an extended pier, where construction has already begun to allow two ships to dock simultaneously. Guests visiting from late 2027 can also look forward to an exclusive retreat for adults called Paradise Sands.

This new beach experience will allow adults to "relax and soak up the sun in tranquility by day before the space transforms into the perfect place to sip a cocktail at sunset ." Dining is also getting a boost with four new venues, including a specialty restaurant and new food market options, bringing the island's total to seven choices.

Families haven't been forgotten, as Seakers Cove Family Beachwill receive an upgrade with a splashpad and ropes course to create the "ultimate multi-generational experience."

Perhaps most exciting is the news that a second private island is currently being developed right next to Ocean Cay. Internally dubbed " Little Cay," this as-yet-unnamed destination will stay true to the ethos of the original reserve. According to MSC , the new island will offer an experience that "connects guests to nature, pristine beaches and the beauty of the ocean plus luxury facilities and water features," per a recent news release.

Despite the growth, the focus remains on environmental stewardship. The line continues to highlight the Super Coral Reefs Program and the recently opened Marine Conservation Center, which serves as a "base for scientists, students and island visitors alike." A new immersive experience called "Shifting Perspective" will also launch, inviting guests to participate in hands-on coral restoration and explore ocean ecosystems.
