Panera Just Dropped a New Soup That’s So Good I Ate a Bowl During a Heat Wave
- Panera has introduced a new three-cheese lasagna soup featuring a ricotta tomato broth, lasagna pasta ribbons, Italian sausage, and Parmesan and Asiago cheeses, which has quickly become a favorite among customers.
I think that Sept. 1 can be regarded as the unofficial beginning of soup season. Granted, I'm currently living in a part of the country that's experiencing a massive late-summer heatwave. So fall soups aren't necessarily what I'm cooking for dinner yet.
But I'm of the opinion that soup is a perfect food. Broccoli-cheddar, minestrone, baked French onion … you name it, I will always order it if I see it on a menu. So when I saw that Panera had dropped a brand-new soup, my mouth started watering. I knew that I had to try it immediately.
What is Panera's new soup?
Panera is no stranger to the wold of soup. In fact, the brand's broccoli cheese soup has been a long-time favorite of mine to grab when I'm traveling.
But the new soup is so good that it might just edge out the famous broccoli soup and become my new favorite. Enter the three-cheese lasagna soup. This dreamy soup starts with a ricotta tomato broth, lasagna pasta ribbons and Italian sausage. Then it's topped with Parmesan and Asiago cheeses for maximum cheese impact.
One spoonful in, I was already hooked. The Italian sausage flavor comes through really well, and I could taste the fennel immediately. I was also pleasantly surprised that it had a touch of heat. This is definitely not a spicy soup, but it does deliver on flavor.
The broth is incredible, too. And I say this as someone who isn't a big fan of tomatoes! The creamy ricotta blended into the broth gives it an undeniable smoothness. The pasta was perfectly cooked as well—no soggy noodles getting lost in the broth. I kept dipping my crusty baguette into the bowl to soak up every bit.
When will Panera's new soup be available?
The three-cheese lasagna soup is available now at participating Panera locations nationwide. It's a seasonal menu offering for fall, but here's hoping that it becomes a part of the permanent lineup. If I can enjoy it when the weather is 90 degrees and humid, I can enjoy it at any time.
