Sheepdog Takes His Title Too Seriously and Becomes Single Dad to a Baby Lamb

Farm dogs are more than just "employees" on the farms they call home. They're members of the family! When a member of the farm is feeling unsafe, the dog is often who they go to, and when there's danger, the farm dog is typically on the front line, ready to defend them.

For one Sheepdog, being a member of the family also meant becoming a father. When a baby lamb needed a father, he was right there, ready and willing to jump right in. Their bond is just about the cutest thing you'll see all day:

The Scott Homestead is a perfect place to be if you're a baby lamb who needs a new parent. Though being a father isn't something he's done before, he definitely wanted to give it a try with this precious baby lamb. He's a Sheepdog-Border Collie mix, and the farm is his main job.

The lamb was orphaned before she got to the Scott Homestead, so we're not sure exactly what the circumstances are. However, we do know that the lamb is being sweet and living her best life with all of her new besties. Mostly, though, her new dad!

He loves sheep in general, not just when they're sweet little babies. He got in a little bit of trouble earlier this year for getting a little bit distracted by his sheep besties, and it was just way too sweet:

I think Spud's main problem is that he really puts the "sheep" in Sheepdog. He just wants to be one of them, and if you were to ask any of the actual sheep themselves, they'd definitely tell you he's totally one of them.

How to Help Orphaned Lambs

If a lamb on your farm has become orphaned, it's imperative that you get them help as soon as you possibly can. They can go from stable to in a lot of danger very, very quickly. As soon as you spot them, scoop them up and get them inside. Preferably with a single Sheepdog dad, but it's not necessary.

When you find an orphaned lamb, there are a few things that are super important:

• Making sure they're warm.

• Keeping them fed.

• Keeping them away from other animals that could potentially harm them.

Ideally, if you have a farm, you should have some emergency milk replacer and a vet on speed dial. Get them checked out and then slowly allow them to fold into the rest of your herd, hopefully with a Sheepdog as a guardian!
