YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Just days away from Easter, those at St. Anthony's Church in Youngstown are once again baking Easter bread for the community.

It's a tradition that dates back over 40 years. Friday marked the start of this year's baking process.

Volunteers bake over 1,000 loaves of the popular bread in just five days. The bread is made up of flour, sugar, eggs, yeast, and a few more ingredients. It's sold for $12 a loaf, and all proceeds go right back to the church.

"At 4 o'clock in the morning, about three of us show up and start preparing the dough," volunteer Ernie Direnzo said. "6 o'clock, some of the other volunteers come in and portion the dough and start forming the loaves. And once that rises, the bakers will be in to put them in the oven and bake them until they're done. And we just keep doing that all day long until we're done."

You can call St. Anthony's on Tuesday to place your Easter bread order. Its number is 330-360-7663.
