Woman With Cancer Forced to Surrender Her Beloved Dog, and the Letter She Wrote for Him Is Breaking Hearts
- A dog named Gus was surrendered at an animal shelter by his mom who was battling terminal lung cancer.
A sweet Catahoula Leopard mix dog was surrendered at an animal shelter after his mom became too sick to care for him.
In the heartbreaking video posted to TikTok , one of the animal shelter workers introduced the world to the sweet dog named Gus, a 5-year-old dog who had to be surrendered by his mom, who suffered from terminal lung cancer.
In the video, Gus stood while the worker gave him plenty of pets, told him his mom was "in tears giving you up" and revealed that she "wrote a letter for him" after she left. The letter explained that Gus was at the shelter because "my mom is very sick."
"I'm going to miss her, [but] you can be my new family," he continued to read. "I love everyone truly, I love kids, and I do really well with cats." The letter also revealed that "My mom loves me so much, but she's having such a hard time with this transition that she wanted me to have my forever home with someone who truly appreciated me and my personality."
Despite being stressed at the shelter, Gus's tail "never stopped wagging," and he enjoyed his treats in the office rather than the kennel.
In the caption, the shelter worker added, "Gus's mum wrote the letter for anyone interested in giving him a new home. Please help us share this boy. ❤️"
People in the comments were devastated to hear Gus's story, with users writing, "he's so sad," and "He has literal tears in his eyes 🥺🥺."
"That poor woman fighting her last days, and she sacrificed her own heartbreak so Gus could be happy," one other person wrote. "God bless that woman. My heart truly goes out to her."
"I hope she transitions peacefully," another person added. "And I know that sweet boy will find his home."
