We all know the upcoming holiday travel season will likely be stressful. But how stressful, exactly? A new calculator can help you determine that very specific number.
FlightsFinder
, a flight comparison search engine, created the "Flight Stress Calculator" just in time for us all to book flights to head home for Thanksgiving and beyond to help us find the chillest travel days or, at the very least, prepare for what's ahead.
All users need to do is put in their departure airport, which airline they are flying, and their departure time to find out how stressful the experience will likely be.
The stress level is calculated by the frequency of flight delays in the selected airport (AKA how late you'll be), luggage weight restrictions for the selected airline's most basic economy fare (AKA how often you'll be asked to gate check), and the volume of travelers during your selected time range (AKA how busy security will be).
"While we can't promise a trouble-free travel experience, we can provide you with a clearer picture of what to expect during your time in the airport in advance of your trip," the website shared about its new calculator.
We tried it out by popping in our home airport (New York's JFK), chose American Airlines, and picked a flight time between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.
For this travel plan, the calculator gave us a stress rating of just 26 percent, which didn't feel too shabby. However, if we pop the departure time to the evening, between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., that number jumps to 56 percent, showing us that maybe a morning flight time really is worth waking up early for during the holidays.
And just think of it this way — you'll at least get to your intended destination even earlier. Check out the stress calculator before booking your next flight at flightsfinder.com .
