  • Wisconsinites can bring old car seats to Target for recycling and receive a 20% off Target Circle Bonus for new baby items.

Starting next week, Wisconsinites can take their old car seats to Target and receive a discount.

It's the return of Target's car seat trade-in event, which runs from Sunday through Saturday, Sept. 15-28. During this time, Target stores nationwide will collect old, expired or damaged car seats to be recycled. Those who bring in a car seat will receive a 20% off Target Circle Bonus for a new car seat, travel system or other specified items for young children.

The first half of the initiative corresponds with National Child Passenger Safety Week, which runs from Sept. 15-21. During this time, organizations educate communities on all things related to car seat safety, from finding the right seat for your child to how to install it.

How does Target's car seat trade-in program work?

Target stores will have dropoff boxes at or near their Guest Services area, along with signs participants scan to receive their 20% off Target Circle Bonus. Your coupon will be added to the "Wallet" feature on the Target app, so be sure to have the app downloaded and sign in before you go.

The bonus can be used in store or online, and is valid Sept. 15-Oct. 12. If you plan to use the bonus in store, present the coupon that was loaded onto the "Wallet" in the app. When purchasing online, make sure you're signed into your Target Circle account and there will be an option to use the coupon at checkout.

Do I need to be a Target Circle member to get the car seat trade-in coupon?

Yes, you need to be a Target Circle loyalty program member, and you will want to have the app. However, you do not need to have a Target Circle Card.
