As a frequent traveler who doesn't like to compromise comfort for style, finding the best travel pants for women has been a major challenge. I've tried dozens of pairs over the years, and they've been either too frumpy, too bulky or just plain uncomfortable.
Of course, I've tried jeans because they're durable and deemed America's unofficial uniform, right? Wrong. For me, they're too stiff and essentially intolerable for long travel days. I've also worn leggings that were so constricting that they felt like they were cutting off my circulation.
Thankfully, my hunt finally came to an end when I found a pair of travel pants that met all my needs. These Flowy Wide Leg Pants are stylish, comfy, packable, lightweight, and can be easily dressed up or down. Plus, they're wrinkle-free. Surprisingly, I found these while shopping at a local Zara in Seattle prior to embarking on an Alaska cruise. At the time, I wasn't looking for travel pants, but these caught my eye and have been a mainstay in my suitcase ever since.

The Travel Pants I Keep Reaching For
Admittedly, I never thought that I'd find the perfect travel pants while doing some last-minute shopping at a random Zara in Seattle, but that's exactly what happened. I honestly can't remember what I was initially looking for, but these pants immediately stopped me in my tracks. Even before I tried them on, I knew that they'd become a wardrobe staple.
At first glance, they didn't look like typical travel pants for women. They weren't joggers, leggings, or cargo pants . They were flowy and semi silky—not exactly what I'd envisioned for travel pants. However, I quickly recognized their versatility and have packed them for every trip since I bought them.
Another bonus is that they're so easy to pack. They're nearly as lightweight as my favorite travel scarf. As a chronic overpacker, that means I'm left with even more space to squeeze in additional essentials. In fact, I could even fit them inside my carry-on , for a quick airport change.

Why You Should Trust Me

As a busy travel writer, I often take multiple trips per month. I joke that airports and hotels are practically my second home. Since I spend so much time on planes, trains and other modes of transportation, I'm always testing the most functional travel clothes and gear.
Plus, I consider myself to be relatively fashionable. While style is subjective, it's worth noting that in addition to travel, I've also covered fashion and beauty over the past two decades. What's more, I'm a trusted style source for my family, friends and social media followers.
So, when it comes to selecting stylish picks that are conducive to an on-the-go lifestyle, I'm your girl. Plus, I've taken these pants with me to many places across the globe including Turkey, Alaska, Aruba, Palm Springs, New Orleans and Dubai , to name a few.

Fit, Fabric and Functionality: What Makes These Stand Out

For me, what makes these pants standout is the lightweight fabric. They're loose, but the elastic, high waist provides the perfect, comfy fit. What's more, the wide-leg palazzo style elongates legs, offering a sleek and universally flattering silhouette no matter your size or height. Plus, they have two front pockets to hold small items like lipstick or lipgloss.
Made of 100% recycled polyester, they drape elegantly—creating an effortlessly polished look. What I love the most about their functionality is the elastic waistband. Who wants to fuss with buttons or zippers when you're squeezing into a pint-size lavatory on a long-haul flight? I don't and these stylish travel pants provide the perfect accessibility for tight, public restrooms.
How They Hold Up On Long-Haul Flights
Speaking of long-haul flights, these pants are akin to pajamas minus the frump. I like to look pulled together while traveling, but I never want to sacrifice my comfort for the sake of style. These travel pants provide the best of both worlds. They're fashionable, but also incredibly comfortable. Plus, you don't have to worry about wrinkles.
The best part? After reaching your destination, you'll still look polished upon arrival. If you're waiting to check into your hotel room, you can head straight to lunch in style. Also, if you're traveling for work with no time to change, these travel pants will give you the confidence to meet with colleagues or clients no matter how long you've been in transit.
Admittedly, I'm usually cold on most flights. So, sometimes I'll throw on a pair of footless tights underneath my pants for added warmth. However, most people don't run cold like me and wouldn't need to add an extra layer—especially, if you're traveling to a hot and humid destination.
How to Style Them for Travel Days
Regardless of what top I wear; I always feel chic in these pants. As I mentioned earlier, these travel pants can be dressed up or dressed down. You can throw on a tank top, button-down shirt, blouse or even a sweatshirt for a travel-ready look. They also pair well with a denim jacket and sneakers for a more casual feel.
During my trips, I usually opt for a sleeveless top to complement the pants' flowy silhouette. If it's chilly, I may throw on a basic cardigan or blazer to cover my arms and shoulders.

From casual breakfasts to upscale dinners, these pants work in a variety of settings. In my opinion, they're suitable for just about any occasion—day or night. Their versatility is ideal for vacations that call for a mix of casual and dressy attire.
Due to their length, these travel pants can also be worn with heels or be hemmed for those who prefer to wear flats. I've worn them with both, and the pants look great either way. Again, another nod to their adaptable dressing options.

These pants look like designer pairs sold and worn by Victoria Beckham —but thankfully, these won't break the bank. Under $50 at Zara , they're a steal that will stand the test of time. Plus, their unmatched versatility will easily become a closet and travel staple.
Whether I'm at the airport, basking in the sun on a balcony, or at a fancy party, these pants make me feel elegant and ready for the world that awaits.
