2 men charged in connection with shooting at Roxbury restaurant that left woman paralyzed
Two men are facing charges in connection with a shooting in Roxbury earlier this month that left an innocent bystander with "life-altering injuries," according to Boston Police .
The shooting happened around 4:09 p.m. on Oct. 8 near 258 Dudley St., the address for Vasquez Pizza and Spanish Food in Roxbury. The restaurant's front window was littered with nearly 20 bullet holes after the shooting, WCVB reported.
Aleyah Fernandez, 23, of Boston, a bystander, was hit by one of the shots, the station reported. She told the outlet she remembered lying on the floor and praying she wouldn't be killed.
A prosecutor said Fernandez was partially paralyzed by a bullet that hit her spine, according to the station. The shooting appears to have been targeted, the prosecutor said, according to the outlet.
Prosecutors have charged two men from Boston in connection with the shooting: 24-year-old Shawn Walker and Devante Stinson, 23.
Both men are charged with carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, using a firearm in commission of a felony, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, causing serious bodily injury.
It is the third time Walker has been charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license. Stinson is also charged with a firearm violation with three previous violent/drug crimes.
Stinson was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court in Roxbury on Oct. 23, where a judge ordered him detained pending a dangerousness hearing. Stinson does not yet have a lawyer assigned to his case. Under an emergency protocol in place for some Massachusetts courts , defendants without representation can become eligible for release after seven days.
Walker has not yet been arraigned. But a probation violation hearing for him was held in Suffolk Superior Court, WCVB reported.
On Thursday, Boston police searched 32 Seaver St. in Roxbury, the address where Walker was arrested. There, they found a high-capacity Glock firearm with an extended magazine, two fully loaded magazines, loose ammunition, and a ballistic vest, according to a statement .
