5 Mass. campgrounds already closed for season. Here’s when state sites close this fall
Five campgrounds in Massachusetts have already closed for the season — before fall has even begun.
There are more than two dozen campgrounds maintained by the Department of Conservation and Recreation across the state.
The majority open for the season in May, and a few start to allow campers in April. One of the locations — Peddocks Island, part of the Boston Harbor Islands — doesn't open until June.
Of these campsites, five have already closed for the 2025 season. These parks include Erving, Granville, Otter River, Willard Brook and Savoy Mountain, which offered last nights of camping on Aug. 31.
The other sites will begin to close next month. Here's a list of the last nights to camp at each site for the 2025 season — including one that opens for winter camping.

Campground locations vary from the forested Berkshires to nearby the beaches on Cape Cod. Campgrounds vary in what they offer, from showers and flush toilets to R.V. sites with electric and water hook-ups. Campers can island camp, use yurts and cabins or a hike-in area.
