Amazon is ending a major Prime benefit
Amazon is set to restrict a free delivery perk for Prime members in October.
The company updated its website , saying that the Prime Invitee program, which allows members to share their account with non-household adults, will end on Oct. 1.
The program will be replaced by Amazon Family, where Prime members can share their benefits with one other adult, up to four teens who were added before April 7 and up to four children in their household.
Additional adult members will need their own Prime membership.
"To share benefits, you and your invitee must live together at the same primary residential address," Amazon's website reads. "This is the address you consider to be your home and where you spend the majority of your time."
Through Amazon Family, members will have access to:
-
Fast and free delivery on Prime eligible items
-
Exclusive Prime events and deals
-
Prime Video (with ads)
-
Prime Reading
-
Third-party benefits (for example, Grubhub)
-
Digital content such as audio books, eBooks, games, and more
-
Amazon Music Prime, which can be shared with one other adult in their Amazon Family. This sharing allows both adults to enjoy ad-free listening on shuffle mode.
Amazon Prime members interested in this perk can sign up by accessing their membership , locating the "Share your Prime Benefits" section and selecting "Manage Your Amazon Family."
To create an Amazon Family with another adult, select "Add Adult." Members can either send an email invitation or sign up together to verify the accounts.
The Prime member and adult must agree to share payment methods in order to share benefits.
As a security measure, Amazon will notify the main owner of the account if the invitee moves their credit or debit card to their wallet.
Members can include children on the plan by selecting "Add Child."
When creating the Amazon Family plan, members will be prompted to review their content sharing settings through Family Library.
Those who don't wish to share any content can uncheck all of the boxes next to the content types, which can be toggled on and off.
Amazon Family members can leave and re-join at any point. However, they must wait 12 months before joining a different Amazon Family account.
