PetATet, a animal rescue organization, is seeking approval to open a cat shelter at 11 Canterbury St. in Worcester, according to an application submitted to the city's Zoning Board of Appeals.
Founded in 2020, PetATet works with shelters to rescue dogs and cats, according to the organization's website .
The organization wants to use a 630-square-foot portion of the building at 11 Canterbury St. to house cats for a 48-hour period before they are picked up by their adoptive owners, the application reads. When cats or dogs enter Massachusetts, they need to be isolated for 48 hours, according to state regulations.
The cats would be delivered to the facility once a month and the property would house no more than 20 cats at a time, according to the application.
Aside from the proposed facility, the building at 11 Canterbury St. is home to a child day care center and an auto repair shop, according to the application.
A spokesperson for PetATet did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.
The Zoning Board of Appeals will review the request at their Dec. 29 meeting.
