Is Archie's Seabreeze saved? Here's 5 things to know about famous bar

FORT PIERCE — Archie's Seabreeze was recently at a crossroads.

New owners Phil Thompson and Deborah Lally initially considered tearing down and redeveloping Archie's into a rooftop bar, which would be a unique attraction for Fort Pierce.

However, after seeing a surge of new and returning customers, Archie's new owners decided to preserve the beloved restaurant and bar on South Hutchinson Island — as long as it remains profitable.

Here's five facts about the "friendly biker bar," known for its mantra: "no shoes, no shirt, no problem."

  • Archie's was founded in 1947 by Archie Summerlin in 1947, who turned a World War II Navy guard shack into a beachside beer joint.

  • Patty McGee  owned and operated Archie's from 1994 until her death on July 8.

  • Phil Thompson  bought Archie's Seabreeze  for $2 million on Sept. 30.

  • The new owners are planning renovation projects for the interior and outside bar areas, motorcycle and car shows in the parking lot and for more live band performances.

  • One tile in Archie's interior bar was reportedly left by Navy Seals, successors to the Navy frogmen who trained on Hutchinson Island during World War II.
