Boston Mexican restaurant known for nightlife quietly closes, fate unclear
A Mexican restaurant in Boston that was known in part for its entertainment has quietly shut down.
Bodega Canal near TD Garden has been marked as “currently closed” on the restaurant’s website , making the fate of the restaurant unclear.
A call placed to the restaurant Tuesday morning confirmed that it was closed. The representative directed people to Bodega’s website or social media for future updates.
It is unclear exactly when or why the establishment shuttered. The last social media post from Bodega Canal was on July 1, indicating the eatery would be closed during the July 4th holiday but reopen shortly after.
Bodega Canal opened in November 2017, according to a Boston Magazine article . The 295-person capacity space had different areas for dining and relaxing, including a main dining room, 22-seat bar and 60-person lounge. There was also a downstairs dining area.
Bodega’s menu comprised several Mexican-inspired plates such as tacos, quesadillas, bowls and fajitas. The cocktail menu was heavily focused on tequila-based drinks including a designated section for margaritas
Bodega Canal was also known for hosting DJs and dancing every Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Bodega Canal was located at 57 Canal St., Boston.
