A Dorchester teenager was arraigned Friday in connection with a case that saw him steal a suitcase and toss it onto MBTA tracks, causing an explosion, according to prosecutors.

Addonis Reed, 19, was charged with obstructing or endangering a railroad, as well as one count of larceny from a person, unarmed robbery, disorderly conduct and two counts of malicious destruction of property, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Before midnight on Jan. 14, Reed was part of a group of five teens that approached a man at the State Street MBTA station and accused the man of photographing them, according to prosecutors. The man denied photographing them.

Reed left the group and followed the man, according to prosecutors. MBTA security footage shows Reed taking the man’s phone and breaking it on the ground.

Reed then took the victim’s suitcase and threw it onto the tracks, according to authorities. The suitcase hit the third rail and caused an explosion that drew a response from police, fire and MBTA security personnel. MBTA service was shut down for a period of time and the station was evacuated.

The following day, police identified someone matching Reed’s description at the State Street stop and arrested him.

The victim said the suitcase held two iPads, an Acer laptop, Apple AirPods and chargers for all the devices, with a total value of more than $3,000.
