New Boston Trader Joe’s nears opening, begins hiring workers

A popular supermarket chain's newest location in Boston is getting close to opening its doors.

The Trader Joe's store at 1999 Centre St. in West Roxbury recently hung a banner announcing that it was hiring. The location is still under construction.

A spokesperson for Trader Joe's said this week that the company has not yet confirmed an opening date.

The building formerly housed a Walgreens store, which closed in November, MassLive previously reported.

Trader Joe's announced in July that it would be opening 30 new stores around the country , with two in Massachusetts, including the West Roxbury location. The other will be at 165 Needham St. in Newton, the second Trader Joe's in the city .

An opening date has not yet been announced for the new Newton store, which the company website says is "Coming soon."
