You can choose the names of turkeys to get a presidential pardon. Here's how.

With Thanksgiving fast approaching next Thursday, Nov. 27, the annual presidential turkey pardon is also on the horizon. The tradition sees the president bestow an official pardon on two turkeys chosen from a U.S. farm, sparing them from being served on the dinner table that holiday season. Before that can happen, however, the turkeys need names, and you can help choose them.

While the White House has not yet set a date for the turkey pardon, the event usually takes place a few days before Thanksgiving. Until then, the Office of the First Lady wants constituents to have a voice in the naming process by voting for different names on the First Lady's social media accounts.

Which turkey names are up for debate?

According to a tweet from the Office of the First Lady, four names are being weighed for the turkeys:

• Sugar and Spice

• Pumpkin and Pie

• Gobble and Waddle

• Acorn and Squash

The names of past pardoned turkeys often carry a holiday or American theme, including 2020 Thanksgiving turkeys Corn and Cob, 2018's turkeys Peas and Carrots, and 2011's turkeys Liberty and Peace, according to the National Turkey Federation .
