Could a Costco be coming to Southborough? The town's select board hopes so.

Members of the select board say that the Framingham-based Atlantic Management Corp. is hoping to develop a Costco at 21 Coslin Drive, according to a letter the board released on Friday.

The plan, as it stands, is that Costco will open in the summer of 2027, according to the letter.

"Expectations are for Costco to act as a magnet for other businesses to co-locate with Costco to attract Costco customers to their businesses — as has been the case with other Costco locations," the letter reads. "When the entire project is completed, a significant boost to the commercial tax base in Southborough is very likely."

A spokesperson for Atlantic Management Corp. and Costco did not immediately respond to requests for comments on Friday.

In order for this plan to move forward, however, the zoning at 21 Coslin Drive needs to be changed, according to the letter. A special town meeting will be held on Oct. 27 to vote on the zoning change.

The select board wrote that they are unanimously in favor of approving the zoning change, as the tax revenue from Costco would help the town and ease the property tax burden on homeowners.

There are currently seven Costcos in Massachusetts, located in Avon, Danvers, Dedham, Everett, Sharon, Waltham and West Springfield, respectively.

There have also been rumors both on and offline that the City of Leominster may be getting a Costco at the Mall at Whitney Field .

Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella told MassLive in a phone call this summer that negotiations had been ongoing between Costco and the mall's owners, Hull Property Group.

Mazzarella did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Friday.
