A dozen new bus stations are coming to Nashville, starting in Donelson
A dozen new bus stations are on the way in Nashville, starting with one in Donelson.
WeGo Public Transit announced March 11 that it will be building a new Donelson Transit Center, bringing new connections for transit riders and more frequent trips on WeGo's Route 6 along Lebanon Pike.
The service expansion is made possible by Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell's Choose How You Move transportation improvement program, a release announcing the new station reads. The plan will fund 12 future transit centers , including this one, by 2032.
The transit center will be built on a portion of the current WeGo Star train's Donelson Station site, providing better connectivity for riders. Both train and bus service, plus commuter park-and-ride facilities, will remain open during construction.
"The design will sustain existing park-and-ride facilities for WeGo customers and will also allow for future joint development with private partners," the release reads.
Planned improvements for the station include new vehicle and pedestrian access to Donelson Pike, plus a new traffic signal, improved pedestrian connections and a "railroad quiet zone" to minimize train horn noise in the community through vehicle and pedestrian safety improvements at rail crossings.
WeGo will hold two open-house style public meetings to discuss initial plans for the project from 6-7 p.m. March 30 and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 31 at the Nashville Public Library's Donelson branch. More information about the public meetings and project's details is available on WeGo's website .
