Frost advisory issued in Mass. on Wednesday night as temperatures drop
Cold temperatures will sweep into parts of Massachusetts late Wednesday into Thursday morning, bringing a chance of frost.
A frost advisory was issued from 12 a.m. until 8 a.m. on Thursday for the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are expected to drop between 33 and 36 degrees in the region overnight, which could cause frozen dew to form — and potentially harm or kill sensitive outdoor plants, forecasters warn.
In areas like Sheffield and Pittsfield, temperatures are expected to hang around 35 degrees with areas of frost after 4 a.m. on Monday. More frost can be expected at 7 a.m., after the sunrise, but temperatures will rise to 62 during the day under sunny skies.
Even Springfield has a chance of frost early Thursday morning, forecasters said, with temperatures projected to be at 36 degrees.
But it will be colder towards the top of the Berkshires in areas like North Adams, where temperature lows could reach 33 degrees and frost will begin to form after 3 a.m.
The frost will be present throughout the morning until 9 a.m., but temperatures will also rise to 62 degrees in the daytime under more sunny skies.
No frost advisory has been issued for Central or Eastern Massachusetts. Temperatures are expected to be at 37 degrees in Worcester overnight and around 45 degrees in Boston.
However, there is an elevated fire risk for Western, Central and the majority of Eastern Massachusetts on Wednesday, as dry winds up to 20 mph sweep through the state.
Open burning is not recommended in Massachusetts on Wednesday, and forecasters warn residents to take caution when handling and disposing of ignition sources outdoors, such as cigarettes or matches.
