HOLYOKE — A 49-year-old man accused of swiping packages from city porches was caught after a tip on Facebook led police to his arrest.

Juan Coriano, of Holyoke, now faces charges including larceny under $1,200 and an outstanding arrest warrant, Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan said Wednesday on social media.

Keenan said on Oct. 1, police went to a home on Hampden Street after someone reported that two packages had been stolen from their front porch.

Detectives started looking into the case and soon named Coriano as a suspect. They were granted a warrant for his arrest.

Around 2:45 p.m. on Oct. 14, police saw a post on the Hello Holyoke Community Facebook page. It showed a photo of a man and said he had been stealing packages in the Sargeant Street area, he said.

Detectives said they recognized the man in the photo as Coriano and knew he already had a warrant for his arrest. They found and arrested him near Hampshire and Maple streets, he said.
