Hurricane Erin brings dangerous beach conditions to Massachusetts
As Hurricane Erin passes off the coast of New England, dangerous conditions are possible at Massachusetts beaches.
"Powerful Hurricane Erin will result in high surf and dangerous rip currents to ocean exposed beaches" Tuesday through Friday, National Weather Service forecasters warned.
Multiple warnings have been issued for areas near Cape Cod.
A high surf advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Saturday with the weather service warning of "dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion." Waves could be 8 to 13 feet.
A gale watch means strong winds could cause "hazardous seas," which, the weather service warns, could capsize or damage boats and reduce visibility.
Off the waters of Marthas Vineyard and Nantucket, a small craft advisory also warns boats of the dangerous winds.
And 25 newton meters offshore, there is a tropical storm warning with high waves.
"Individual waves may be more than twice the significant wave height," the National Weather Service warned.
Most of Massachusetts is expected to have "very nice weather" with highs mainly in the 70s for much of this week.
