SPRINGFIELD — John O'Brien, co-host of the Rock 102 morning show for decades, died Sunday after a 14-year battle with cancer.
He was 65. O'Brien's death came a day before the annual kickoff of the Mayflower Marathon, a major food drive he helped lead for decades.
Colleagues and local leaders praised his humor, generosity and commitment to the community.
"John fought a valiant public battle with his cancer challenges, which inspired many of us," said Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. "If he wasn't busting your or my chops, you'd know that something was wrong."
