Has Kansas lost its holiday cheer? This national ranking thinks so
Has Kansas lost its Christmas luster?
Kansas has dropped significantly in a "most festive" states ranking list.
Last year, Kansas ranked third most festive state. The list each year is done by Innerbody Research , an online research and data analysis company.
Innerbody is on its fourth year of determining which states are "feeling the most holiday spirit and which are the Grinchiest."
This year, Kansas took a dip and is No. 17 on the list, a 14-state drop from last year.
While the state has taken a hit on holiday searches, there have been plenty of festivities in Topeka .
Why was Kansas deemed less festive in 2025?
Innerbody CEO Eric Rodriguez said Kansas took a hit due to less interest in the holidays online.
"Our data analysis showed a notable drop in total search interest within Kansas for topics tied to Christmas festivities (e.g. Mistletoe, Christmas Lights, Christmas Decorations, Christmas Cookies, etc)," Rodriguez said in an email. "Compared to the previous year, Kansans were searching about these topics less, relative to other topics, during this holiday period.
Rodriguez said Kansas wasn't the only state to dramatically dip.
"This drop was pronounced, but Kansas isn't all alone; a few other states (notably, Pennsylvania and Washington state) also saw significant drops in the share of Christmas-related searches," Rodriguez said.
Innerbody's research also said the top holiday search in Kansas was anything candy cane-related. The only other state with candy canes as their most searched topic is California.
