Kayaker drowns at Montaña de Oro State Park
A kayaker drowned at Montaña de Oro State Park in San Luis Obispo County Saturday.
The kayaker drowned after he was flipped upside down by waves, witnesses told the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.
“As a result, it appears the life vest he was wearing somehow slipped off his body,” the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office, California State Parks, the U.S Coast Guard and Cal Fire all responded to the emergency. The man’s body was recovered and rescuers performed CPR. However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man’s name has not been released to the public at this time. The drowning remains under investigation.
