Lack of equipment cancels some Amtrak trains through Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — Amtrak canceled five north-south trains that normally serve Springfield because of lack of equipment Monday.

Two of those trains are already canceled for Tuesday, as well, said Jason Abrams, a spokesperson for the railroad. They are numbers 425 and 471, both Valley Flyer trains.

There is no word yet on cancellations for Wednesday.

Tuesday's Train 425 was scheduled to leave Greenfield at 6:05 a.m., arrive in Springfield at 6:45 and then arrive at Windsor locks, Connecticut, at 7:13.

Tuesday's Train 471 was to have left Springfield at 8:55 a.m. and arrive at New Haven, Connecticut, Union Station at 10:18 a.m.

Amtrak is providing buses or rebooking passengers on other trains, according to its website.
