Man charged in connection with Route 128 road rage shooting
A Quincy man was arraigned in Salem District Court on Thursday after prosecutors say he fired a gun at another vehicle during a confrontation that began at a Route 128 rest stop.
Thomas Drequan Perkins, 26, was arraigned on charges including two counts of armed assault with intent to murder with a firearm, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm near a highway, according to the Essex County District Attorney's Office.
Perkins pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Prosecutors say the shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Monday after a verbal altercation in the parking lot of the Beverly Service Plaza on Route 128 northbound. According to WCVB , the victim said the altercation began while he was pumping gas.
"I drive by and start leaving, he's standing right in front of his car. He puts his hand up as if he's going to shoot me. He pulls up his t-shirt like he's grabbing for a gun. I drive in front of him again, and he starts like stepping towards my truck," he told WCVB.
Prosecutors say Perkins got in his own car, pursued the man onto Route 128 and fired multiple shots at the vehicle. The victim told WCVB he found three bullet holes in his car.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Perkins is also charged with a second-offense count of carrying a firearm without a license, possessing ammunition without a firearm identification card, and defacing property.
