A New York man is facing charges in connection with trying to kill his coworker with a machete at Amazon's Revere facility on Saturday, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.

Rochester resident Evens Laforet, 24, pleaded not guilty to assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery during his arraignment in Chelsea District Court on Monday, according to court records.

Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.

The charges stem from an incident at the Amazon facility on American Legion Highway in Revere on Sept. 20, the district attorney's office said. An employee reported that Laforet, who also worked there, had chased him around the building while wielding machetes and threatening to kill him.

The victim told Revere police Laforet had "consistently demonstrated aggressive behavior" since he began working at the facility a month ago, the district attorney's office said. The Saturday incident began after Laforet put himself at a workstation that he was not assigned to.

The victim told police that when he came over to address the issue, Laforet grabbed the victim's vest and said, "I'm going to kill you," the district attorney's office said. The victim pushed him off, and Laforet left the building, but he soon returned holding two machetes.

The victim reported that Laforet threatened to kill him again, then charged at him, the district attorney's office said. The victim tripped and fell, and Laforet then stood over him with his machetes raised.

Another employee soon intervened by yelling Laforet's name, causing him to look away from the victim, the district attorney's office said. The victim took the opportunity to run away from Laforet, who then fled the facility before police arrived.

A witness reported seeing a man enter a wooded area near the facility entrance, and Revere police called on Massachusetts State Police to help search for Laforet, the district attorney's office said. Police located Laforet by pinging his cellphone and arrested him without further incident.

Laforet told police his actions were a response to "harassment" by the victim, the district attorney's office said. He said he didn't intend to harm his coworker, but wanted to "send a message."

During Laforet's arraignment, the judge ordered him held without bail pending the results of a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Thursday.
