Man dies after being hit by SUV while crossing the street in Mass. town

An 83-year-old man died after being hit by an SUV in Walpole Saturday afternoon, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office.

The SUV struck the Walpole resident around 1:30 p.m. as he tried to cross Washington Street, the district attorney's office said in a press release. Firefighters took the man to a hospital where he was declared dead.

The 19-year-old woman who was driving the SUV remained at the scene of the crash, the district attorney's office said. Authorities had not filed any criminal charges against her as of Saturday evening.

The district attorney's office is investigating the crash along with Walpole police detectives and crash reconstruction investigators, the district attorney's office said. No further information, including the man's identity, has been released.
