‘Man purse,’ cocaine and a corner store: Holyoke drug bust nets two arrests
HOLYOKE — A traffic stop, a "man purse" and a monthlong investigation led to two arrests Tuesday in what police say was a drug operation run out of a Holyoke convenience store.
Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan said two men were charged after Tuesday's arrests.
Jeffrey Cintron, 45, of Springfield, is accused of selling heroin and having cocaine and other drugs in his car. He was also charged with speeding. Juan Jimenez-Gomez, 61, of Holyoke, is accused of having heroin and cocaine and planning to sell them.
Over the past month, Keenan said, officers working with federal agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration had been watching a convenience store near 96 Maple St. because they believed drugs were being sold there.
Around 1:50 p.m., police saw a man leave the Maple Street convenience store and get into a car.
Police said the driver, later identified as Cintron, was speeding, so officers pulled him over near 484 Maple St. Officers found 12 bags of cocaine, five pills they believe were fentanyl and some cash inside the car, Keenan said. Cintron was arrested.
About 40 minutes later, police and federal agents went into the store and arrested Juan Jimenez-Gomez, Keenan said.
Inside his "man-purse," officers found about two bundles of heroin, a bag of cocaine and $1,923 in cash, he said.
