Mass. fugitive wanted on felony warrant arrested in N.H. after high-speed police chase
A Massachusetts fugitive wanted on a felony warrant was arrested in New Hampshire early Tuesday morning after a high-speed car chase with police, according to New Hampshire State Police.
East Wareham resident Dominick Howard, 20, is now facing charges of disobeying a police officer, reckless conduct, resisting arrest, reckless operation and fugitive from justice in New Hampshire, State Police said in a press release .
Troopers began pursuing Howard just before 4 a.m. after Lowell, Massachusetts, police alerted them that he had eluded police during a car chase on Route 3 north and crossed into New Hampshire, State Police said. Troopers took over the chase on Route 3 in Nashua as Howard continued driving north at around 100 mph in a Ford Escape.
Troopers soon deployed a tire deflation device, but Howard kept driving in an attempt to evade police, State Police said. After traveling a little over two miles, the SUV lost a tire, causing it to crash on the right side of the road in Merrimack.
After the crash, troopers took three of the SUV's passengers into custody, but Howard managed to flee into a nearby wooded area, State Police said. Troopers and Merrimack police immediately began searching the area, but did not find him.
Hours later, around 9 a.m., Howard was spotted at the crash scene and arrested, State Police said. Two of the passengers were released without charges, while the third — a minor — was charged with resisting arrest.
Howard is scheduled to appear in Merrimack District Court on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
New Hampshire State Police did not provide details regarding the charges Howard is facing in Massachusetts, but Lowell police said Tuesday that the felony warrant was not issued in their jurisdiction.
No further information has been released.
