Mass. man accused of accidentally killing brother indicted on manslaughter charge
A Northbridge man who authorities say accidentally shot and killed his brother at a home in May has been indicted on a manslaughter charge, the Worcester County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.
A grand jury indicted 33-year-old Christopher Lacour in the death of 36-year-old Jonathan Lacour in Worcester County Superior Court last week, the district attorney's office said in a press release. When Christopher Lacour was first charged and arraigned in Uxbridge District Court in May, he also faced one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Jonathan Lacour died after his brother shot him at a home at 63 Legion Way in Northbridge on May 21, according to the police report about the incident. Police were called to the home shortly after 11 p.m. and found Jonathan Lacour covered in blood and lying face up on the floor between the kitchen and living room.
By the time officers arrived, Christopher Lacour was pressing a T-shirt to his brother's lower chest, according to the report. He aided police while they provided first aid to his brother.
When paramedics arrived, they watched as Christopher Lacour, who was kneeling on the floor, fell backwards and began hyperventilating while begging for his brother's survival, according to the report. Jonathan Lacour was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester where he was declared dead.
When asked where the gun used to shoot Jonathan Lacour was, a woman at the home picked a semi-automatic handgun off a couch and pointed it at a sergeant before putting it back down at his request, according to police. Police found that the gun's magazine had been removed and placed on a coffee table in front of the couch.
When questioned by officers, Christopher Lacour told them his brother had put a bullet in the gun without telling him, according to the report. He later got ahold of the gun, pointed it as his brother as a joke and pulled the trigger, he told police.
Jonathan Lacour is remembered as "an accomplished cook" who studied the culinary arts at Blackstone Valley Regional Technical High School and went on to work at Kapi's Pub in Uxbridge, according to his obituary. He loved fishing, his pets and listening to his favorite band, Pink Floyd.
"Jon was a gentle, unassuming man with an old soul. He was a homebody who truly enjoyed and appreciated the simple things in life," his obituary reads.
Christopher Lacour's arraignment in Worcester County Superior Court is scheduled for Oct. 21, the district attorney's office said.
