Mass. man indicted in connection with hit-and-run crash that hurt Mass. State Police trooper
A Revere man was indicted in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a Massachusetts State Police trooper hurt and hospitalized for almost two months, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden's office said Thursday.
Akram El Moukhtari, 18, faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, larceny of a motor vehicle, reckless operation, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of ammunition, Hayden's office said in a statement. He was indicted by a Suffolk County grand jury on Thursday.
An arraignment date has not been scheduled. El Moukhtari previously pleaded not guilty at his initial arraignment.
"These are serious charges that reflect the incident that left Lt. [Daniel] Bossi with devastating injuries," Hayden said in his statement. "I send Lt. Bossi and his family my best wishes as he continues his recovery."
Bossi was hit by a stolen motorcycle outside the State Police Barracks on Revere Beach Boulevard shortly before 5 p.m. on June 23, State Police previously said. The crash "propelled" the lieutenant 45 feet. Within a day of being at the hospital, officials say he was in stable condition at Massachusetts General Hospital. Bossi is the station commander of the Revere Barracks.
On Aug. 19, Bossi was moved to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Cambridge.
