Mass. weather: Pleasant weekend gives way to rainy start to next week
With cold nights and bright sunny days, this weekend is set to begin with a pleasant display of fall weather before wetter conditions sweep in as next week arrives, meteorologists said.
A calm and clear Friday night will see temperatures drop into as low as the 30s. Thermometers could dip below freezing in the coldest areas of Northern and Central Massachusetts, while slightly warmer temperatures are expected in urban areas and on the Cape and Islands, forecasters with the National Weather Service said.
Temperatures on Saturday will rise to the mid- to upper-60s, with clear skies giving way to some clouds later in the day, the weather service's regional office in Norton said.
Saturday night is expected to be slightly warmer than Friday, with lows in the 40s in most areas and upper 30s further north.
High temperatures may reach 70 degrees on Sunday, the weather service said.
The day will be mostly dry, but forecasters expect rain showers to arrive from the west beginning after sunset. The exact timing of the rain's onset will be clarified as the storms approach.
Forecasters expect rain showers to blanket most of the region by the start of Monday's morning commute, with thunderstorms possible.
The forecast for further into the week is not yet clear, weather service meteorologists said.
Initial forecasts pointed to "a trend toward below normal temperatures next week with periods of showers," the weather service said.
