A woman who died in a murder-suicide in her Raynham home on Friday was remembered by her family as a "creative soul" who loved the outdoors, her obituary read.

On Aug. 8, Raynham police responded to 134 Elm St. West shortly after noon and found 37-year-old Marie Hunt and 35-year-old Mark Henshaw dead in a locked second-floor bedroom, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III's office said previously. Both were lying on a bed and declared dead within an hour.

Henshaw had been shot once in the head, while Hunt was shot in the abdomen. The Chief Medical Examiner's Office determined that Henshaw killed Hunt and then himself, Quinn's office said.

Marie Olive (Raymond) Hunt was born in Brockton in 1987 and was the daughter of Lisa Hunt and David Raymond, her family wrote. Marie Hunt grew up in Raynham and graduated from Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School. She worked for years as a corrections officer for the state.

"Her dedication to her role reflected her strength and resilience a qualities that defined her both professionally and personally," her obituary read.

"Marie was a true free spirit; spunky, social and always barefoot to be one with nature," her family continued. "She had an infectious energy that made everyone feel welcome in her presence. A creative soul with a talent for tattoo art, she expressed herself through vivid designs that captured the essence of who she was. She loved being outdoors — hiking through nature trails or simply watching the sunrise in quiet reflection."

"Wildflowers held a special place in Marie's heart," Marie Hunt's obituary read. "She enjoyed picking fresh wildflowers nearly every day, often presenting them to loved ones tucked inside a Dunkin' Donuts cup — a signature gesture that embodied her whimsical charm. She would also weave flower headbands and necklaces from these blooms."

Marie Hunt loved listening to musician Janis Joplin "and found freedom in [her music's] raw emotion," the obituary stated. "...She embraced life with fearless enthusiasm. To know Marie was to experience warmth, laughter, spontaneity and above all a beautiful soul who gave freely of herself to others."

She is survived by her children, her siblings, nephews, maternal grandparents and her parents.

Calling hours will be on Friday, Aug. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave. in Taunton. A funeral home service will be the next day, on Saturday, Aug. 16, at Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, followed by a burial in Pleasant Street Cemetery in Raynham.
