MetroWest supermarket to close in September, lay off 160
A Marlborough supermarket will close this fall, laying off its entire staff of about 160 people.
Hannaford at 193 Boston Post Road West will close on Sept. 13, according to a Massachusetts Workers Adjustment Retraining Notice filed with the state on July 14. In a letter accompanying the notice, a lawyer for the company wrote that some employees may remain on the payroll for up to 60 days after the final day of business to help close the facility.
Employees have already been notified, according to the letter.
A spokesperson for Hannaford told CBS News the store is closing because the company was "not given the opportunity to renew" the lease at the store.
It will be replaced by a Shaw's supermarket, according to CBS.
Hannaford has 15 other locations in Massachusetts, mostly in the western and central parts of the state.
