Milwaukee's fees, restrictions play role in illegal dumping | Letter
A few years back we had "ward yards" were we could dispose of yard waste, trash, electronics, etc. for free. Then to save money, the ward yards were consolidated.
We now have two drop off sites where we are charged fees for some items , restricted to the quantity of others. And no assistance for the handicapped. I was told. "this is a self-help yard."
Pick up at our house is also extremely restricted in amount and types of items and subject to fees.
Would it not be smarter for our upper class elected officials to stop imposing fees and make it easier for citizens to dispose of unwanted items? It seems to me that if the people doing the illegal dumping can transport trash to unauthorized sites, they would go to the authorized spots if they were accessible.
It's time people realize the less fortunate citizens would operate within the law if it wasn't priced out of reach.
