NYC-based coffee chain to open in former space of historic Boston diner
Blank Street Coffee is planning to open the coffee chain’s eighth Boston-area location in the former space of Twin Donuts diner.
The NYC-based company will take over the property at 501 Cambridge St. in Allston and start renovations later this year, according to a press release. Blank Street anticipates the new location to debut in spring 2026.
The Hamilton Company, which owns the property, will restore and retain Twin Donuts’ original and iconic neon sign while incorporating Blank Street’s own branding.
Twin Donuts diner, which was established in 1955, permanently closed in March after 70 years , reportedly due to slow business.
“We’re excited to welcome Blank Street to Allston and partner with them to create a new era of business history at 501 Cambridge Street,” The Hamilton Chairman and CEO Jameson Brown said in a press release. “Blank Street’s preservation of the iconic Twin Donuts sign really honors the long history of that property as a special place that is beloved in the community.”
Established in August 2020, Blank Street is a well-known coffee brand that has also developed a large following for their matcha beverages . The company also sells its blends and merchandise in-store and online .
The chain has more than 90 locations across eight cities in the United States and United Kingdom. Blank Street’s seven locations in the Boston area are in Beacon Hill, Back Bay, North Station, South Boston, Brookline and Cambridge.
